I know it's completely over-engineered and adds a fair bit of weight, but damn. Just imagine walking past a traffic jam and seeing someone flip the magic switch! I'd stop walking and gaze at the mechanical performance art.

I still can't believe this car can to that and still have the back seats.

O__O
I hadn't thought about that, and had to double-check that it still has them (it does). Although, I suppose all the mechanisms are above and behind the rear seats.

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
OK, I give them cred for putting the top on the remote, but... (more on that later)
The operation of the Targa is not that special. Want special, check out my 'transformer":
And if Porsche thinks this is going to be reliable, think again. First, the top operation just like mine is electrically powered hydraulics. Without the car running, you can operate it twice with a fully charged battery, but the battery will be so drained by the third time the car won't start. Second, the sensors monitoring each phase of the operation will need annual recalibration starting around year 4 or 5. And lastly, those hinge arms on the boot look really flimsy lifting the weight of that glass, that's an alignment nightmare waiting to happen. OBTW, don't try operating that on anything but a level surface; on any type slope that rear glass' struts are going to flex.
Why is it of all the videos out there none show it working in the opposite direction? Hmmm.....
